Galileo

One of several Global Distribution Systems, which redistribute availability results and are used to make reservations for IHG. Galileo is owned by Travelport.

General Inventory

Inventory types available for sale for transient guests.

Generic Inventory

Approach to managing fragmented attribute inventory availability, using generic inventory types that are associated with 'real' Inventory Types. This is primarily for indirect channels, where generic inventory types are mapped back to legacy codes (e.g. CSTN).

Geographic Segmentation

A way of grouping guests and/or hotels by location (e.g. Northeast, European, Greater China) that enables IHG to identify the needs of each location's guests/hotels and tailor its products and services to meet those needs.

Global Distribution System

The reservation tool travel agents use when making an air, hotel, car or other travel service bookings, which additionally provide pricing, availability and reservation functionality.

Global Migration

Establishes IHG as an organisation in Guest Reservations System (GRS), with all the components that are managed at a global level. Examples include: regions, brands, room types, rate categories.

Goods and Services Tax

A value-added tax imposed by some countries, states, cities, etc on goods and services.

Gross Operating Profit Per Available Room

Measures management's ability to produce profits by generating sales and controlling the operating expenses over which they have the most direct control. Gross Operating Profit Per Available Room (GOPAR) is calculated by dividing gross operating profit by the rooms available in the hotel.

Gross Rate

The total rate, including taxes and service fees, and before any applicable commission is deducted, that may be presented to a customer.

Gross Rooms Revenue

Revenue only from Rooms (i.e. excluding revenue from Food and Beverage, Other Operated Departments and Miscellaneous Income) and inclusive of all taxes.

Group

Any piece of business (e.g. 10 sleeping rooms or more at peak day, a meeting room for 50 people or 30 golf green fees) where inventory for the group is set aside from general inventory (group block or allotment), capping the number of bookings allowed and governed by agreed terms and conditions.

Group Block

A block of inventory contracted for a defined period and used for a specific piece of business.

Group Booking Tool

Creates a link for groups to book a negotiated rate on our branded website, through use of the 3 letter block ID code. The link can also be distributed via email.

Group Cancel Status

Group booking cancelled at “Definite Status” and cancellation penalties will apply. All reserved spaces associated to the particular group are released back to general availability.

Group Cut-off date

Specified date(s) and / or time(s) until which inventory must be held on behalf of a group according to agreed terms and conditions (e.g. at a fixed rate). Once the cut-off date passes, the inventory may be (automatically or manually) released for general sale, according to the agreed terms and conditions (e.g. partially released, fully released).

Group Definite Status

Signed contract in hand and booking is confirmed and/or deposit is paid. Inventory is considered as 'Definite' / 'DEF' and is deducted from general availability.

Group Displacement

The process of analysing group business based on the total value of the business and comparing it to the total value of the transient business that would be displaced if the group business was accepted.

Group Force Sell

The ability to use a non-contracted room type at the group rate when the contracted room types in that group have been filled.

Group Prospect Status

A quote has been provided to the customer. There is no commitment from the customer. No inventory is being held and remains available to be reserved by another customer. Inventory is considered as 'Prospect' / 'PRO.

Group Tentative Status

A contract has been sent and the customer has verbally agreed to the terms of the contract. Inventory is tentatively being held and is considered as 'Tentative' / 'TEN' and group is expected to turn into 'Definite' status. Inventory is deducted from general availability.

GRS Functional Domain

A team that defines requirements and designs solutions for a specific set of GRS functionality. The GRS V1 domains include: Booking Tool (BKT); Channels (CHN); Configuration (CFG); Migration (MGT); Overall User Interface (OUI); Pricing, Attributes and Groups (PAG); Reporting and Business Rules (RBR); Security (STY); Shop and Book (SNB). The GRS Vf domains include: The Wonderful World of Attributes (WWA); Pricing Rules and Methodologies (PRM); Upsell/Offers Engine (UOE); Groups & Direct Billing (GDB); Channels & Shopping Cart (CSC); The Big Group (BIG). Does NOT refer to Product Attribute Grouping, which is a term no longer used.

GRS Programme

A critical enabler of IHG's commercial strategy, which centres on the delivery of a next-generation Guest Reservation System (GRS) and related enhancements across IHG's proprietary systems. The reservation system will revolutionise our merchandising, inventory management and pricing core, enabling scalable agility and future innovations along our technology roadmap.

GRS-Supported Language

A language to which the Guest Reservation System (GRS) has been localised. This includes, at a minimum, translation of all User Interface (UI) elements and may include translation of content.

Guarantee / Payment Method

One of the four core components of a reservation. This record is attached to the other components of a reservation, allowing each guest associated with a reservation to guarantee or pay for each offer that is reserved. While the Guarantee/Payment Record may not contain any personally identifiable information, it will contain payment information and is subject to any PCI standards regarding security and encryption.

Guarantee Required

An indication that a form of guarantee is required in order to hold a individual or group reservation for any product or service.

Guaranteed Reservation

An internal hotel term used to describe a reservation which has a method of payment confirmed.

Guest

Any person who consumes a hotel product or service.

Guest Identifier

A unique number assigned to a customer or guest and used for identification purposes during a reservation request (e.g. IHG® Rewards Club member number, unique identifier assigned by web cookie, etc.).

Guest Name Index

A pointer (index) to each Guest Name Record (GNR).

Guest Name Record

The reservation record of a guest who has booked with an IHG hotel in the Guest Reservation System (GRS).

Guest Pay Model

Arrangement where Online Travel Agents (OTA) guarantee reservations with the guest's credit card. The guest pays directly at the hotel and the OTA receives their commission after check-out, typically via IHG Commission Services (ICS).

Guest Profile

One of the four core components of a reservation. This includes all of the personally identifiable information such as the guest name, contact information, delivery address, etc. There may be multiple Guest Profiles attached to one reservation.

Guest Reservation System

IHG's global system for distributing rates and availability to booking channels, capturing reservations from those channels, and acting as the single repository for reservations and inventory at all IHG hotels.

Guest Rule

A rule that will alter the price based off who the guest is.
